SNORKELING

My absolute favorite way to spend the day is to snorkel the reef then relax and have lunch on one of our secluded out island beaches.  Whether we are able to make it out to the reef line on a calm day, or stay inshore to hit some of our patch reefs, you will not be disappointed.  Then add a stop at any one of our incredible backcountry islands and relax, soak up the sun, have lunch, or walk around and explore what the island has to offer.  Snorkeling and playing on an out island beach is a perfect adventure for the whole family.

The Florida Keys reef system is the only U.S. living coral barrier reef.  It runs the length of the Keys and is only a few miles off shore.  Our reef system is spectacular, and is teeming with marine life.  From the brilliantly colored corals to the tropical fish, the reef is filled with life.  We will be able to observe many exotic creatures in their natural habitat.  There are hard corals and soft corals, both of which are absolutely beautiful.  The Brain corals, Elkhorn, Staghorn and Star corals are amazing to see and swim around.  The sea fans and sea whips mesmerize you as you calmly float above different sections of the reef watching the sea creatures go about their day.  We will see lobster, shrimp and crabs as well starfish, mollusks, and urchins.  It is not uncommon to see moray eels, rays, sharks.  The variety of fish you will encounter is endless.  Angelfish, Butterfly fish, Damselfish, Parrotfish, Puffers, Cowfish, Trunkfish, Filefish, are but a few of the many fish that inhabit our reef.  They are brilliantly colored and are incredible to watch. Grouper, Snapper, Jacks, Barracudas, and even a Tarpon or two can be seen in most areas of the reef.  It is amazing to see all of these wonderful creatures in their natural habitat, a sight that cannot compare to any other.

If you have the time, it is worth adding a remote out island beach stop to your day.  To get there we can take the long way and cut through some of our mangrove lined creeks looking for many of our aquatic birds, as well as spot rays, sharks, turtles and dolphin moving through the shallow waters of the backcountry.   The water is crystal clear and the flats are gorgeous.  The kids will get a chance to safely play in the shallow water, while you relax and enjoy the majestic scenery.  You can throw a Frisbee or get enough people together to have a football game.  You can sit in as little as a few inches of water on a sand flat while enjoying lunch and drinks.  Some of the islands have areas that can be explored while some are off limits.  In any case, a beach stop should be included in your day on the water in the Keys.

The boat we will be traveling in is a 24’ Robin which provides a safe and comfortable ride in the Florida Keys Marine Sanctuary.  I can accommodate up to 6 passengers and children are welcome.  We can explore remote islands in the backcountry and visit pristine white sandy beaches.  We can snorkel the mangroves and backcountry corals or the crystal clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic on calmer days.  We can cruise through secluded mangrove lined creeks and sight stingrays, sharks, barracudas, dolphin, sea turtles and many aquatic birds in their natural environment.  This backcountry adventure will offer you an experience of a lifetime that should not be missed and can be enjoyed by the whole family.
