Backcountry Fishing in the Lower Florida Keys, Big Pine Key and Key West

Flats Fishing for species like Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit and Redfish

This type of fishing expands your success rate.  This is when we go loaded for bear.  This is fun for the whole family, men, women, and children.  You will have the opportunity to catch just about any and every species out there.  Tarpon, Permit, Bonefish, Redfish, Grouper, Snapper, Mackerel, Sea Trout, Pompano, Snook, Jacks, Barracuda, Shark, Ladyfish, Bluefish, and Cobia among others can be caught while fishing in the backcountry.  Bent rods and pulling drag = Big Smiles.

This is the type of fishing trip that I recommend for the whole the family to enjoy together. During these trips we also enjoy majestic views of the islands. The backcountry of the Florida Keys is the most prestine place to experience in the United States.

Sight Fishing the Flats in the Lower Florida Keys, Big Pine Key and Key West

Light tackle and Fly fishing for Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit, Redfish, Barracuda and Sharks

Sight Fishing is the art of poling the boat silently in shallow water in pursuit of Bonefish, Permit, Redfish, and Tarpon.  We also have a lot of shots at Jacks, Barracuda, and Sharks.  All of these species are fun to catch in shallow water while sight casting to them.  Remember that polarized sunglasses are a must.  You will not be able to see the fish without them.  This is also a great time to fly fish.  I use top of the line equipment and tackle to help with your success. When fishing in shallow water, the fish are much more wary so you have to use stealthy tactics and your casts have to be much more accurate than other tpes of fishing. My all time favorite is fishing the flats for Permit. I enjoy fishing and guiding the flats for all species of fish. You not only see many species of fish but you also get to see a lot of other types of marine life such as turtles, sting rays and dolphins. The flats of the Florida Keys are the most prestine in the world.

ECO Tours in the Lower Florida Keys, Big Pine Key and Key West

From Big Pine Key, Key West to the Marquesas

The clear pristine water of the Florida Keys Backcountry offers the most amazing collection of offshore islands which are rookeries, feeding grounds, habitats, and sanctuaries to countless creatures and the key to our delicate eco-system as we know it.

The Florida Keys are a chain of limestone islands that extend from the southern tip of mainland Florida approximately 220 miles southwest to the Dry Tortugas.  These islands are the remnants of ancient coral reefs and sand bars that were once underwater and flourishing with sea life.  As water levels began to drop and eventually exposed this reef system, the reef and sandbars fossilized and formed the rock that makes up the island chain we know as the Keys today.

The Grey Ghost, the Silver Bullet, These slang names are for good reason.  They can be transparent in the water and gone in a second.  Watch 100 yards leave your reel in the blink of an eye.  Come sight fish them on the flats with spinners or fly tackle.

BRIDGE FISHING TARPON - BAHIA HONDA BRIDGE in BIG PINE KEY, FLORIDA

Fishing the bridges in the middle and lower keys can be a very productive way to target tarpon.  There is a high concentration of tarpon around the bridges during the migratory run.  My favorite bridge to fish is the Bahia Honda Bridge.  The action there can be red hot.  There are many multi hook-up days. Live baiting is the most common way to fish the bridges.  Live crabs and or pinfish are my favorite live baits.  Live mullet can also be a great bait.  Top water plug casting can bring lots of excitement.  Large soft jerk baits also bring lots of strikes in the artificial bait category.  No matter how you may hook one of these magnificent fish, you will be in for a fight of a lifetime.

Family Fun Fishing IN KEY WEST, FLORIDA

The ultimate fishing trip for the family! Just outside the backcoiiuntry there is a whole new world for shallow water fishing. In less than 20 feet of water, there are many patch reefs and wreck to drop a line. We catch many different species of grouper including Blacks, Gags, Reds, Goliaths. We also have many Snapper species available like Mangrove (Grey Snapper), Mutton, Yellowtail with a mixed catch of Cobia, Mackerel, Jacks and most types of Sharks. There are just too many species of fish that we catch to mention. This is a great experience for the whole family, from young to old. No matter what your experience level it is, it's rock solid fun. I'm very experienced with teaching children how to fish and it's something I enjoy very much. Unlike other guides, I allow you to keep up to the legal limit of your catch and clean them for you to take back to "The Hurricane Hole Marina and Restaurant" or your favorite Keys restaurant to have cooked. I have found that this is the most satisfying way to fish. everyone comes out a winner. Nothing but tight lines and quality fish!
